Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina
"If you knew how much I love you, you'd cry of joy."
On All Saints' Day, we visited Mejugorje which is about 45 minutes from Mostar. We went to Mass first at the church, and then we each went our own way around the grounds. I hadn't been feeling God's presence very well lately, and I was spiritually frustrated. I said a Rosary on the grounds and I ended up at the Resurrected Christ Statue. I sat down on one of the benches and began meditating. I got distracted by the line of people lifting up rosaries and little white cloths to the statue as if for blessing. I was very confused and I asked God to help me understand what was going on. After about 10 minutes of staring and wondering, I realized that there was water running down the back of Jesus's thigh! I starting crying as I realized I was witnessing a miracle! I then spent more time praying and I decided to get some of the cloths and come back. The statue itself leaks water throughout the day, and in a miraculous amount. It is a beautiful representation of the Resurrected Christ. Jesus appears as if he is still on the cross, but when one looks at the ground behind the statue, it is clear that he has risen up from a soft bed of clay. It is a very symbolic gesture of the notion that even at the Cross, Resurrection was already happening. When I went back, the water was very sparingly coming out of his right calf. The lady in front got some. I did not, but I wiped by cloths on the statue and spoke with Jesus for about a minute. I cling to his leg and for the first time in a while, I felt like so close to him, I felt like he was holding me. It was so spiritually renewing, and I truly am so grateful for such a profound and beautiful experience there.
