Innsbruck, Austria

Innsbruck, known for its Alpine skiing. and imperial inner city did not disappoint. My roommate Emma and I arrived on Friday morning, and we immediately walked around the old town. It was filled with quaint shops and was decorated for Christmas. We ate a hearty lunch at the Augustiner Brewery before heading up into the hills to see the Alpine Zoo. It was such a unique experience! They had all sorts of animals we had never seen before that are native to the Alps: Lynx, moose, owls, vultures, jack rabbits, and mountain goats. That evening, we enjoyed walking around the markets drinking glühwein (traditional spiced wine) and snacking on soft gingerbreads. Saturday morning, we headed up to Seefeld in the alps to go skiing. They did not have enough snow, so we ended up at Axam where the ski events for the winter Olympics were held in Innsbruck back in 1964 and 1976. I am not a strong skier, so when we got to the top of the lift (and the mountain), I was terrified and forgot how to ski! I knew it would be difficult for me to make it down, so I hopped back on the lift. Emma did great, and we had lunch at the top of the mountain. it was incredible to be above the clouds and enjoying such a priceless view. After she went down a second time, we called it quits and went back to Innsbruck for another relaxing evening getting into the Christmas spirit.
