Kraków, Poland

Kraków was absolutely gorgeous! The city itself has so much character and the food is so yummy! I must've had 3 dozen pierogi's in two days! We visited the Divine Mercy Shrine on Friday and were blessed to participate in the Divine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00 (the Hour of Mercy) in the place Jesus appeared to St. Faustina! So cool! The modern church was beautiful and open; I felt the architectural message of the open arms of God's mercy. Saturday we took a guided tour of Auschwitz, Birkenau, and Wieliczka Salt Mine. Auschwitz was extremely difficult to walk through. Truthfully, I teared up multiple times and I so deeply questioned the goodness of humanity as a whole. We did see St. Maximilian Kolbe's cell, and his story helped with shedding some hope on humanity again. Birkenau was different, but also very moving because the tour took you on the same path the prisoners would walk straight to the gas chambers from the trains. The memorial there was very honesty and I truly appreciated that. In the afternoon, we visited Wieliczka Salt Mine. It was a labyrinth of caverns, church, chapels, and hallways. It was a very cool experience, and I even sipped pure salt water from an underground stream! The biggest church was entirely made of salt, and I loved the nativity that was carved there. The whole place is massive and it was incredible trying to fathom it all! That night, we went to the market in the middle of the square in Kraków before getting on our bus to Budapest.
